Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2018 Las-Vegas

Alex Stolarz

THE PE-RT TECHNOLOGY HAS EVOLVED SINCE IT HAS BEEN FIRST INVENTED AND INTRODUCED TO THE MARKET IN 1982. AN ESTABLISHED TECHNOLOGY FOR HOT AND COLD WATER PIPES USED IN DOMESTIC APPLICATIONS HAS POSITIONED ITSELF WELL WITHIN OTHER MATERIALS DUE TO THE COST EFFICIENT PROCESSING, HANDLING AND PRODUCTION OF PIPES. RECENT TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS APPLICATIONS IN THE OIL&GAS MARKET TO BE INTRODUCED WHERE HIGHER LONG-TERM TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE UP TO 95°C IS REQUIRED.

Polyethylene of raised temperature resistance has proven it’s suitability in the hot & cold domestic plumbing market for nearly four decades. Processing ease and a high process reliability on existing HDPE extrusion equipment ensures high-end quality pipes. This allows the pipe manufacturer to produce pipes that are reliable, efficient to produce and result in cost competitive pipe solutions for a growing market.

Expansion to new application areas in the oil & gas field need pipe systems that are cost efficient in fabrication and maintenance, show prolonged lifetime during the service and compete with traditional materials such as carbon steel. Examples in the industry with operating conditions for specific applications are shown below. Background information on the implementation is discussed for the oil and gas industry as the industry moves to more economic ways in covering applications that were not previously realized with Polyethylene.
