ORLEN Unipetrol
ORLEN Unipetrol is a subsidiary of the ORLEN group, which is a leading multi energetic company in CEE. ORLEN group comprises 7 refineries located in Poland, Czechia and Lithuania, integrated with petrochemicals production, oil and gas production in Poland, Norway, Canada, Pakistan and Lithuania. ORLEN group operates in more than 100 markets with the focus on CE, Norway, Canada and ME.
ORLEN Unipetrol is a Czech refinery, petrochemical and agrochemical company with 6000 employees.
Its long history goes back to 1939, when it was producing synthetic fuels from local brown coal. A switch to crude oil processing delivered via pipeline was done in the 1960's.
Production of polyolefins started in Litvínov in the 1970's (Amoco PP and Union Carbide HDPE units), continuously upgraded to current capacity of 770 kta of polyolefins: 300 kta of PP (Innovene™ PP technology), 200 kta HDPE unit (Unipol™ gas phase technology) and the latest 270 kta HDPE unit (Innovene™ S technology), which was put into operation in 2019, focused for grades for pressure pipes, small and large blow moulding, extrusion and film.
ORLEN Unipetrol operates two R&D institutes – UniCre oriented on refinery and sustainable products development and Polymer Institute Brno, providing technical support in polyolefin portfolio advanced testing and product optimization and development.
Relating to activities on sustainability, ORLEN Unipetrol focuses on new sustainable products, decarbonisation of our assets (replacing coal heating plants by new steam gas units), reduction of energy consumption, orientation to renewables (hydrogen distribution centres) and plastic recycling.
