ADVANTAGES OF PE-RT II PIPES IN DISTRICT HEATING APPLICATION SYSTEMS

Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2023 Lake Buena Vista

Xin Zhou, Abdullah Saber, Shuqiang Wang, Huilong Chen

PE-RT II (PE100 classification) is designed >50 years lifespan at elevated temperature which aims to the growing demands on the applications of hot water and other industrial applications.

District heating is a growing market in Greater China. However, the conventional pipes have serious corrosion issue in this application (1).

In this paper, an old steel pipeline has a leakage issue after a few years of operation due to corrosion with district heating system, then a PE-RT II pipeline system with dn20~dn315mm, S5 was introduced to replace the corroded steel pipeline. The max. working pressure is 0.5MPa and water temperature is set at 50℃.

Plenty benefits of PE-RT II were found in the replacement including easy to transport and install, better heat insulation performance and no leakage. Meanwhile, approximately 20% ~ 30% investment saving with pipe diameter dn20mm ~ dn315mm, S5 was calculated by PE-RT II pipeline. And 5% operation cost was saved including water savings and electrical power savings with each heating cycle, Furthermore, 70% savings was calculated through the whole life cost calculation model compared to conventional steel pipe.
