Progress in PVC Pipes - Quality, Consistency and Sustainability

Developments in Materials for Pipes

Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2001 Munich

Bos, Tan

The paper examines the production of PVC and its conversion into PVC-U pipes. Advances in chemistry, process engineering and the design of extrusion equipment have led to significant improvements in quality and consistency of both PVC polymers and pipes made from them. At the same time, pipe productivity has risen more than threefold. The contributions made by the improvements in polymer quality and novel pipe designs are examined. Further improvements are discussed as are the credentials of PVC pipes in the emerging discussions concerning the waste management and sustainability issues.

2012 Barcelona : How much recycled PVC in PVC pipes?

Author(s) : J.Fumire and S.R.Tan

This paper demonstrates the excellent recyclability of rigid PVC and the strong possibilities of incorporating recyclate into foamed PVC pipes. Calculations show that it is the availability of rigid PVC recyclate, partly due to the long service lives of PVC pipes, which is the limiting factor in further extending the...
