Testing and Processing
Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 1982 York
Houz
In GRP pipes cracks develop and grow, leading to weepage af ter prolonged cyclic loading. Simultaneously a gradual decline of elastic properities of the wall can be observed. This process can be described in two ways : as decline of the elastic "constants" of the lamina and as a concurrent growth of many cracks in the laminate. Both descriptions are worked out.
OBJECTIVE
Filament wound glassfibre reinforced plastics pipes are often used under dynamic loading conditions. Though design and testing criteria for these pipes have been proposed, their failure behaviour is thus far not well enough understood. Continuum mechanics and fracture mechanics may help to develop a beter understanding of this behaviour.
