Use of PE Pipes for Gas Distribution in Italy [PE]

Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 1992 Eindhoven

Del Gaudio

The use of polyethylene for gas distribution networks was authorized in Italy only in 1984. Genoa's AMGA was the first in Italy to use medium-density polyethylene for an extension of its gas network of over 150 kilometres. A trench - machine supplied by British Gas was used for the excavations. Significant results have been achieved in terms of speed of work and savings in pipe-laying costs. A few considerations on AMGA's experiences are illustrated hereinafter.
