This paper discusses the existing markets and underlying trends for pipes made of plastics materials within Europe. Especial emphasis is given to the areas known best to the author, the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Kingdom.
At the time of writing this paper, recession is a very important factor with little sign on real recovery in Germany. In the U.K. some promising signs of recovery may be seen to be justified by September, and, with a background of raw material cutbacks and plant closures by major suppliers, some return to general profitability. It will be some time, however, before the good years of the late 1970's return.
