Because pipes are submitted to cyclic stresses in the UEWS test, this method offers some advantages over the standard long term burst pressure test. Clear transition points between elastic and inelastic regions of the stress-strain curve can be identified. These transition points are a sound basis for the determination of the long term allowable stresses in polyolefin pipes.
