Pressure Testing of PE Pipes Using Acoustic Temperature Measurement [PE]

Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2001 Munich

Ashworth

This paper describes an approach for performing improved commissioning tests on gas distribution mains. It covers the background theory to the problems involved, which include the discrimination of leaks from creep and temperature change. The production of models to predict the creep behaviour is outlined, along with the development of novel acoustic technology to provide temperature compensation. These have been incorporated into a software package, and illustrations and practical experience of the use of this new package in the gas distribution environment are presented.
