In considering the role for plastics il should be emphasised that as a consultant the issue as between choice of a traditional material or product and its plastic counterpart in general follows a logical sequence of selection in which in the end the most suitable material emerges either on technical or economic grounds.
Most of the factors, e.g. the special qualities of the product in installation, its performance over a useful life and in the light of the local conditions, its price suitably related to the total cost of the item when installed and ready for work, and its availability, which is often a crucial factor in making a selection, can be summarised in the following simple system.
