Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2004 Milan

Among the filled pipe-laying methods, it’s interesting the one that permits, for certain soils characteristics and for little plastic pipes, to lay the pipe-lines without the excavation and burying operations. The “Consorzio di Bonifica della Piana di Terralba e Arborea” adopted this PVC pipe-laying system to the distribution sprinkling net of the establishment named “Lotto Nord di Arborea” (Arborea, Sardinya, Italy). The layed pipe-line total length is about 800 km. It was PVC made, PN10, DE 90 and 110 in 12 m long bars with glued joints. About 2000 sections 400 m long each have been realized. The interested soil is prevalently sandy and his friability feature eased this continuous system pipe-laying. The pipe-lines sections have been premounted on the ground sideways the pipe-laying axis with the glued joints. It has been also premounted a hydrant for irrigators every 16-18 m. With a special equipped tractor with a 250 HP motor, the pipe-line has been lifted and travelled over a solidary with the same tractor roller, while it has been continually driven in a furrow that a special posterior double ripper created in the soil. Two posterior convergent ploughshares provoked the automatic bury and the arrangement of the soil. With only one tractor it has been possible to lay until 18 km of pipe-line in a working-day!. It’s interesting to examine the advantages of this pipe-laying system and the precautions to take against possible technical problems during the distribution sprinkling net working.
