PE - A Proven Material in the Practical Application [PE]

Plastic Pipes Conference Association # 2004 Milan

Allmann

The plastic piping industry has evolved into a highly successful player within the international arena, having penetrated many new segments. Furthermore, market acceptance of plastic piping has increased in many fields of application on account of the improved technical properties of materials. This mainly applies to the supply and disposal sectors, i.e. drinking water and gas supply as well as waste water disposal.

The ongoing development of high-performance plastics, innovative products and systems, in conjunction with improved price/performance ratios for users, has led to considerable increases in the market share of plastic pipes in comparison to pipes made from the traditional materials of concrete, earthenware and cast iron.

In the case of PE-HD (high density polyethylene), the development of the modern performance materials PE 80 and PE has brought great advantages in expanding the fields of use of pipe and piping systems made from polyethylene. These benefits are outlined in the following sections.
