PVC is a well-established material used worldwide for different applications such as window profiles, technical profiles, cables and sheets. Usage of PVC for pipes covers pressurized potable water applications as well as sewage systems, conduit, gas piping systems, gutters and fittings. Pb-based stabilizers have been the dominating system for the past several decades except in North America, where Sn-based stabilizers are predominantly used. However, Ca-based systems are gaining more and more importance and are state-of-the-art in many regions (e. g. Europe and South America). This presentation aims to give an overview of performance and experience with PVC pipe stabilizer systems as well as developmental trends from a global perspective.

One solution in development for managing runoff water is the buried stormwater drainage retention tank or “crate”. The crate is typically a rectangular box structure made of thermoplastic components (flat panels and columns) assembled in a modular form. The function of the top panel is to transfer the load to the...

In 2022, USU completed the most comprehensive water main break survey ever undertaken in North America to determine the performance of different pipe materials. More than 800 utilities responded to the survey. The survey respondents from this study represent 410,000 miles or 16.7% out of an estimated 2.45 million...

Reinforced thermoplastic pipes (RTPs) are multilayer structured pipes reinforced with high-strength materials such as fibers (glass, aramid, or carbon fibers). RTPs are used to transport highly corrosive mediums at elevated pressures and temperatures. An example of that is the use of RTP in the Oil & Gas industry to...

Agriculture is the major occupation practiced in India, and irrigation is therefore a vital part of the entire water budget of the country. India possesses only 4% of the total world’s fresh water resource, of which, more than 80% is consumed solely in the Agriculture Sector (Dhawan, 2017). Canal based distribution...

Plastic pipe systems have more than 80 years of history. Plastic pipes have successfully managed to replace various traditional materials by providing reliable, noncorrosive, leak tight pipeline solutions. As pipes are not the only components of piping systems, logically would be to see the similar development of...
